What This Workshop Is About
Traumatic and overwhelming experiences don’t just live in our minds. They can become “stuck” in the nervous system, in the body’s fascia, in patterns of tension and protection. When that happens, our bodies, our emotions, our thoughts and behaviour can all be shaped by past events—not because we choose to, but because the imprint remains. This workshop is about gently bringing awareness to those patterns, learning what trauma is, how it affects us, and equipping you with tools to begin releasing, re-regulating and integrating in a way that feels safe, manageable, and embodied.
What You Will Learn / Key Topics Covered
What Makes an Event Traumatic
How emotional overwhelm leads to experiences that are incompletely processed (and thus “stuck”) in the nervous system and in fascia.
The difference between acute, developmental, complex trauma, and more subtle but pervasive wounding.
How Trauma Affects You
Physiological: nervous system activation (fight / flight / freeze / fawn etc.), chronic tension in the body, dysregulation.
Emotional: shame, fear, anger, anxiety, depression, over-sensitivity or numbness.
Cognitive & behavioural: intrusive memories, avoidance, hyper-vigilance, difficulties concentrating, self-esteem / relationship / coping strategies.
Tools & Practices for Self-Regulation & Reducing Post-Traumatic Reactions
Activating the parasympathetic nervous system (relaxation, down-regulation) via breathing practices (including a version of Wim Hof breathing or analogous breathwork).
EMDR strategies: calm place / safe space visualisation; using Resource Figures to re-write or reframe aspects of traumatic experiences; bilateral stimulation techniques (eye movements, tapping or other).
TRE (Trauma & Tension Releasing Exercises): learning and practising the TRE sequence; how the natural tremoring / shaking reflex works; how to use it for integration, soothing, balancing protective states.
Integration: Combining EMDR & TRE
Why TRE is especially useful after EMDR or similar modalities: to ground, to integrate, to settle protective states, to release residual tension.
Understanding that TRE is not catharsis (i.e. it isn’t about pushing through or re-traumatising) but about allowing the body’s natural intelligence to recalibrate and release what has been held too long.
Safe, Gentle Application
How to work with these practices in a way that is not overwhelming: pacing, noticing activation, self-compassion, support.
Learning to be an observer of your own internal states; building capacity for choice rather than reactivity.
What Makes This Workshop Special
Combines two powerful, complementary modalities (EMDR & TRE) so you not only process trauma but also integrate and re-balance the body’s protective states.
Led by experienced practitioners (Roger with long clinical EMDR experience; Luke with embodied, somatic, TRE & kinesiology work) offering both safety and skill.
Gentle, encouraging environment: self-regulation and integration are prioritised; no pressure, pacing is attuned to what each person can hold.
Emphasis on tools you can use on your own afterwards: not dependent on continual external support.
Why TRE Matters
TRE is an innate, built-in mechanism: mammals tremble / shake when overwhelmed; this is part of the body’s natural intelligence for resetting after stress.
Tremoring helps release deep chronic tension, allows energy / protective responses (fight / flight / freeze) to resume flow, de-activate or down-regulate hyperarousal / immobilisation.
Supports lasting shifts: after EMDR or therapeutic processing, TRE helps ground the nervous system, reduce residual activation, and integrate changes into body and behaviour.
Who This Workshop Is For
Anyone who has had traumatic experiences, big or small, and wishes to understand more deeply how they are held in the body and how to begin working with them.
For people already doing some EMDR or other therapeutic work, who want tools for integration.
For those who feel overwhelmed, anxious, triggered, or stuck in protective states and want gentle practices to support regulation.
Not suitable for those in active crisis without additional support; participants should feel reasonably safe in the body / prepared to work with states of activation.
Safety, Depth & Gentle Integration
This workshop is designed so the material is introduced in manageable amounts. You will always be invited to pace yourself. The focus is not on catharsis or pushing through distress, but on understanding, choosing, integrating, and self-regulating. We honour that trauma lives in the nervous system and in the body, and this workshop gives you tools to work with what arises, with compassion, wisdom and support.
